Strawberry Memories

The weeks seem to be getting busier and busier. The good news is that all of the berries continue to do exceptionally well. This past weekend I finally started picking strawberries. They are beautiful!! I'm anxious to try a new strawberry pie recipe in the coming days and hopefully share it with you. Some comfort food sounds really nice right now.

Unfortunately this has been a very sad week for us. A few days ago we lost our much loved and ever faithful Cocker Spaniel, Mindy. She was 15 years old and was beginning to really suffer so we knew it was time. Such an incredibly difficult thing to do!! We are certainly happy that she is no longer suffering, but our hearts are broken and she will be greatly missed. It's been bittersweet picking the first strawberries this week without her. Mindy was a berry connoisseur and loved picking berries with me. She loved it when I would "accidentally" drop one or two. She would devour them instantly!

Our Great Pyrenees, Meghan, was her buddy and she is going through the grieving process as well. I sometimes wonder if she might be confused and wonder where Mindy might have gone. Time heals all wounds and we will get through this. I saw a quote written by the late Rev. Billy Graham. He said, "I think God will have prepared everything for our perfect happiness. If it takes my dog being there (in Heaven), I believe he'll be there." I like that! It brings me great comfort. I'm so thankful that God knows the desires of our hearts and cares about our feelings....even the sadness over losing a pet.

With a grateful heart it's time to make a strawberry pie!
